VEHICLES???
What are the thoughts on introducing more vehicles, mortars, field guns.....into the larger operations?

RE: VEHICLES???
Mortars and "Field Guns" have been done at some games - as long as they're inspected by the field owner and OK'd, I have no problem with them. It is up to the field owner though - their ass / insurance is on the line. That's not up for debate.

Vehicles get tricky. Yes it's private property, but do you let people without valid drivers licenses behind the wheel? When they're in battle, how do you police that? Someone takes a BB to the neck through a window and hits the gas instead of the brake, runs someone over. I guess it would all depend on the type of vehicle and the parameters for it's use. So it's worth discussing if you have some good (and safe) ideas.

I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.

The best game for vehicles I have personally been to, is operation Rhino. A yearly event held at the Craig-Complex (PRZ Tactical) near Picton, Ontario.

A couple of video's from last years game:

If they were a dedicated driver not part of the team, and they wore protective equipement, I'm sure it would be fine. How fast would someone be driving to start, and wearing the protective stuff would prevent the hitting the gas scenario.

I think it would be sweet to have more trucks

RE: VEHICLES???
though id like to see some in certain scenarios, where would we use them.

Pet and 307 have one trail big enough for vehicles to go down.

the LZ is probly the only place a vehicle can be used freely.

even at a game like rhino, they werent that effective. though that may have been more due to the players than the vehicles. they tended to speed off as soon as they came under fire.

the logistics of it are also a deterant, you may need different feild insurance if vehicles are involved, you may need to modify it, removing windows, doors, ect., and you need to fuel it. all that can be expensive. and thats not figuring in the cash to buy an old beater if you dont already have one on hand.

RE: VEHICLES???
Ive had the pleasure of vehicles being used in 2005-2006 at the LZ as mobile transport and battle vehicles. Was very fun but the upkeep and the beatings they take do start to cost.

Nothing prevents the hitting the gas scenario. A human is behind the wheel, humans make mistakes.

A dedicated driver approved by the field owner is a good way to limit that - that was the way it worked at Red Devils last year and there weren't too many problems. But anybody who thinks adding vehicles doesn't add extra risk, and isn't willing to even consider that, is just being naive. Saying "I'm sure it would be fine" doesn't convince an insurance company that their liability is limited.

The entire season the truck at Red Devils was driven by a select few and it worked well. Then one game someone decided to jump in it, slam on the gas, and they tore the brake line on a log. The truck now has no brakes and won't be used this season because of 1 person jumping in it without thinking it through in the heat of battle. Not only unsafe, but also a cost to the field owner should he decide to repair it.

RE: VEHICLES???
The best way to prevent the gas scenario for the car would be to get an automatic car and remove the gas petal. this allowing only the break pedal to be used and when you release the break the car would be going into motion if the car is in drive. The only issue with this is of course we would need an old car and second what happens if it gets stuck you can't accelerate to get it out. Then of course for safety reasons it would be good to have a car without any glass.
