RE: Final PC Build
SSD is in the mail, should be here in a week. the green drive works well enough, im getting a decent enough data transfer rate. and cant argue with the price, it was 90$ for a 2TB. its scoring a 5.9 on the windows rating system, good enough for me most of what it will be holding is music and movies anyway, i dont need super fast transfer rates for that, everything important will be going on SSD drives once they arrive.

as for the cables in the bottom, I bought a PSU designed for tripple SLI, havent gotten the other two cards yet, so theres nowhere for the cables to go untill i have the cards installed. i can probly clean it up a bit, but nothing is blocking a fan, airflow isnt impeded, and everything is running right, so i really dont see a need in messing with it right now. once i get my other cards installed i clean it up some more.

the intake is in the rear of the case and exhaust is at the front. i actually find it running cooler that way than when i had it configured for the rear exhaust. right now im running at around 25C with a front exhaust vs 29C on rear exhaust, also its keeping my ram cooler. in the coming weeks ill be adding top and bottom exhaust as well.

RE: Final PC Build
Intake should always be the front of the case and vent out the top and highrear side of the case. Heat goes up and if your PC is against the wall the PSU below will be blowing heat up and your rear intake will blow it back into the case.

Why triple SLI? Nothing is going to fully use all that and shit you could put the money towards an aparment with all the cash your blowin on a pc.. what are you gunna end up at? about 3k?

RE: Final PC Build
as i said, im getting lower numbers with a front exhaust than if i had a rear exhaust. i dont know whats doing it, i know it flies in the face of common sense, but its working for me.

as for tripple SLI, its not neccicary yet, but i fold when im not using the computer. more GPUs, more folds per hour i can do the more it helps. eventually it will be neccicary that i have 3 cards, but im not buying them all right away, ill have the second 2 months from now, the third probly within 6 months. yeah, i could probly do somthing else with my money, do i want to, no.

I used all 6 drive bays.

I stopped using cable TV a few years ago and download everything. I have Rogers extreme just to handle the 250gb usage limit and I still hit that from time to time.

I stream my hockey games so Im happy.

Im waiting for HDD prices to recover from the flood and watch redflagdeals every day for HDD sales.

RE: Final PC Build
I found some 2 TB WD green drives by hitting the local PC shops. got lucky at canada computers on marivale. found em on sale for 90$ a few months ago, regular 149$, there good general storage drives, good for videos. but if your looking for fast transfer rates for gaming, look elsewhere.

RE: Final PC Build
Don't know if anyone else has heard but Seagate made an announcement about HDD capacities (not SSD). They have managed to make mass manufacturable HDD densities triple what they are now. They said they should be able to break 10TB for a single drive with a year or so for 3.5" and 6TB for 2.5" for laptops.

Of course these will come with an ultra premium price tag at first but hopefully go down in not too long.

Ewww.... WD green.

It's not just a slow data rate but also the fact that they wind down when not used to save energy. When you do want to access them you need to wait for it to get up to speed like a CD or DVD (though not as bad.)

As pure storage drives they are fine. I save piles of video to mine. When I access my media server, here is a read delay, but only for a second, then its business as usual. I remember when it wasnt such a huge difference between the blacks and the greens. Few years ago 1T blacks were $50-60

RE: Final PC Build
Well, I just finished building a new one ('finished' being a relative term):

EVGA Classified SR-2 Mobo
2 x Xeon 5570 @ 2.93GHz
48GB Kingston ECC RAM
Gigabyte GTX 560 (OC)
120GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD (SATA3)
Corsair HX 1050 PSU

I just got it running, so I haven't benched it yet or anything - but I'm thinking it should be pretty fast.

And here's a pic so you know I'm not shitting you...

Not exclusively, no. I do a lot of different stuff, and I reckon this will do all of it fairly quickly.

Needs more cards. And less wires.

I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.

Yes, it needs to be tidied up. I've got the black zip ties all ready to go, and I think there's enough slack in everything important to allow me to unclutter it.

There's one more card on the way that has the special plugs on it for the front USB3 ports, but I don't think I'll need more graphics cards any time soon.
