THE CQB THREAD!!!!
Dear OVA! This is a fairly small club with alot of newer to the sport players. This is good and bad for a couple reasons. Good things being you have all these new fellas running around and if you can get a leash on em and teach them right you can breed a whole mess of just down right deadly plastic slingers. Bad in the sense that usually small clubs full of new guys usually dont have a strong expierence base to learn from. Thankfully for guys new to the welt farm that is airsoft OVA has a good spread of well practiced players. And hopefully I would think most if not all of the vets are like me and like to teach the young fellas a thing or two because we have all seen the mag tickling paintball mask wearing FNG hit the field his first game and die as one would expect someone of that description to do(alot). And then low and behold a few seasons later this fella comes out the gate a full blown gunfighter cutting other players down with shameless abandon. (untill I find and stop him of courseWink) He hasnt gained anything more then knowledge yet it seems hes been hanging out with a little green dude whos been teaching him all the ways of the force all his short years. So since the vet players cant kill everything themselves all the time no matter how often we try well start here. By teaching any new guy who will listen.

CQB - Close Quarters Battle
Mout - Military operations in urban terrain.
FIBUA - Fighting in built up areas
FISH - Fighting in someones house (ok that ones not real but you get the drift)

All of the above are pretty much the exact same thing. And since airsoft is all close range engagements even if your johnny sniper in the grass. This should be your bread and butter. People get all twisted up when they hear these terms and most often the first image coming to mind is the BA door kicking SF types that they see in all the hippest movies. But it just isnt the case. CQB is tiring and repetitive, or at least it should be if your doing it right. Its a drill just like anything else military, its a routine, one designed on simplicity and angles. With an end goal of being alive and the enemy being dead.

You dont need to know how the SEALS JTF2 or Force Recon clear rooms because your not a group of 4 supremely fit and highly trained killing machines. How ever how they clear a room is fundamentally the same as any other basic infantry unit. They just get to do it with cooler doo dads.

Your goal is to get your team into the space the enemy is occupying smooth as can be and put holes(or welts) into him before he can do it to you.http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_O_5jG4K66GE/TA...ngLine.JPG this is your end state!

This is how you get there.

Using teamwork to cover all angles at all times even when your not in a room is what this game is all about.. Ill add more when im feeling motivated but please discuss away.

RE: THE CQB THREAD!!!!
Finding shit as i go since i dont explain as well on the interwebs. Gimme a gun and i can show you but for now ill just do the leg work.
1.) Sounds

Depending on the furnishings in the building, talking to teammates can be OK or a no no. If the rooms are carpeted and there are drapes or curtains or upholstered furniture, you can get away with a little low level talking. If there are hardwood floors though, or the buildings rooms are sparsely furnished..voices travel like wildfire. Also pay close attention to heating vents. I don't know how many times my team won over others because the opposing teams talked out loud as if they were playing outdoors in the woods...thats a no no indoors..hand signals only...we knew where they were all the time.

2.) Sight alignment.

When your in a CQB environment, you need to be able to bring your sights up quickly as things happen VERY fast. However, you also need to have a clear view ahead, especially if the rooms and hallways are dimly lit. So how you hold your weapon is crucial For pistols, you want to have your weapon extended ahead, just below your eye level, your off hand cupped under the grip or at the side of your primary hand. For SMGs and small rifles you want the stock in your shoulder just a little above your armpit. The barrel nose down at about a 35-45 degree angle, to keep your forward vision clear. Both hands on the weapon. The both hands is important, its easier and faster to steady your aim with 2 hands than with 1.

3.) Approaching corners

I'm sure you've seen it..in the movies, two guys with guns..one on each side of the corner 3 feet from each other ready to jump out..doesnt that seem stupid..well it is. When you are approaching a corner or room in a hallway or into a room with no door you want to be as far away from the corner as you can as you approach. if your going to be going around the right side, then you approach the corner against the left side wall, with your sights raised just below your eyes with the gun ALWAYS pointed right at the corner. If there is reason to suspect danger from the opposite corner, such as in a room just across the hall from the one your clearing..then you have a second man doing just the same you are across from you...but several feet back. This way..they will have sight of any danger in that room before anyone in that room can see you...its all about angles... As you get even with the doorway, and you are facing the door from directly across the hall, if you still haven't seen anything, just keep going doing the exact opposite down the hall walking backwards...your cover man approaching the door just as you did...once every possible viewable angle inside the room has been seen..then you can breech...and when you do you know the only areas you should have to worry about are the small angles exact opposite the outside walls that you could not see when clearing the room, or any closets or cabinetry.

Note on Corners. Attention campers... or aggresive defenders there is only one defense for someone cutting an angle on you. CUT IT BACK . Aggresively persue the target and engauge him before he expects you. You hold the advantage here.

RE: THE CQB THREAD!!!!
Ok so you have made entrance into the building. You have secured one hallway and are working on covering 12-6 and all possible contact points as best as you can (doors, corners, random holes in the floor/roof) now you are at the first door and the party is about to start. DO NOT GET SCOPE LOCKED! ( 9 times out of 10) guys get smoked in airsoft standing in a stack by a doorway. This happens because they dont employ security. Now in my first post in figure two there is an orange guy and a red guy watching either avenue of advance, these guys although dont get to feel all bad ass and shit have the most important roles. The saftey of the now distracted squad is on there shoulders. Utilize them! Ok so your in the hall stacked up 1 2 3 4 with two man security watching 6-12 (if you dont have 6 guys the 4 man is watching six and the 1 man is keeping an eye on the 12) Now the moment of truth "the door". This is where that really cool saying comes in "slow is smooth smooth is fast" (oooooo tingly) but its so true. The smoother your entrance the faster you can get rounds on target. So lets go with door closed. Number 1 man please oblige your team by opening the door in a violent effective manner (feet work) if the door opens and swings right number two man:
1. pivot in the doorway to square up with any contacts thru the door way
2.one step in thru the door turn right and glass the corner
3. move towards that corner and sweep your point of aim to the next cornor along that wall
4. Once you are clear of the door and closer to your initial corner you should be squared up in a gunfighter stance knees slightly bent weapon shouldered and levelled and sweeping your arc for any contact and reporting any barricades or blind spots.

Number one man after clearly showing that door you took its mother for a nice meal and some dancing oblige number 2 man and do what he did in the opposite direction. NUmber three will do the same but go right and his first point of aim will be the back right corner of the room and sweeping left to the middle. number four will be the back left corner and sweeping to the middle of the room.

All said and done you should be all four of you in a straight line with your backs closest to the wall attached to the hallways and no one should be in the funnel of the door way or more then halfway across the room. This usually goes just like this when there isnt anyone in the room. For time when there are people in the room the goal is to set them back and delay there reaction with suprise and violence of action. If i kick a door off its hinges and come thru the wreckage shooting I almost garuntee buddies last reaction will be to shoot back. That being said CQB is nasty and chaotic when you get shot because you will DONT STOP dont turn around and walk out either move in and out of the way or just fall. Your going to get pushed and probly stepped on but its all a part of it and a small price to pay for getting a front row seat to a sick firefight. if your behind a guy who gets shot DONT STOP!!! dont do the airsoft one step back then charge in. The reason these are all repetitive drills is to train that out of your head to get your brain hard wired into fight mode and making you forget that flight was ever an option.

RE: THE CQB THREAD!!!!
I really want to do some CQB training. I've played in the Craig complex in picton, and I think that's what sparked my love of CQB( well that and the Rainbow 6 games)

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for the Infantry holds the high ground

RE: THE CQB THREAD!!!!
Nothing...and I mean nothing, brings a bigger smile to my face than working with one or more people to destroy others.
When shit is switched on, it is like a whole other game and you can almost "walk" over any opposition you come across...in Airsoft anyway.

Perhaps this year, we will be able to throw something together... maybe a game day where we have some "teachers". Problem is, people come to things like this expecting allot of shooting and play-time. It is more about learning proper procedure than it is about shooting and the problem is.... even if you are a "Tactical-Master"..unless those you are playing with are also Airsoft-Assassins, you will only be as effective as your "shittiest" (for lack of a better word) player.

That is why people form teams..you learn what each guy is capable of, you know that you will all be following the same procedures and you will be able to communicate without words. When the switch is flipped, it is almost like you have ESP...you will know what, where and when you and your team-mates are supposed to be and what they should be doing.

I like that everyone in Ottawa plays on a social level and I hate to say it but I will....
Until Airsoft becomes more like Paint-ball in respect to Teams and Organization, it will stay a hobby and not a "sport".
I encourage people to play on teams or at least with the same people all the time...it does not mean you cant be social with others..if anything it lets you share tactics and tips that your group may not have thought of. It allows you to learn, from both your "friends" and your "enemies".

At any rate, if you read this and the other guides as well as try to implement what they teach into your play-style..you will be well on your way to being an Airsoft killing-Machine.

Remember above all though, it is just a game. You do not die and neither do they...its just a game and you all share a common interest; so have fun out there!

RE: THE CQB THREAD!!!!
you guys will be seeing a lot of our team next season. We've got about 9 players now at least 5 active and a team uniform Smile I agree with dutchy. There's nothing like running with an experienced team. A coordinated 5 man team can take out dozens of opponents. Ive seen it happen and ive done it myself.
Just keep rolling with the same guys and learning from your mistakes.
Id love to see more teams out there
